बोष्टनको द्यौसी भैलो
बोष्टन, October 30, 2008- राधजानी शहर काठमाण्डौलाई तिहारको रन्कोले छोए जस्तै अमेरिकाको बोष्टनलाई पनि तिहारको रन्कोले छोएको छ । तिहारको तेस्रो दिन अधिकांश बोष्टनबासीहरुले आ-आफ्नै घरमा परम्परानुसार लक्ष्मी पुजा मनाए । हिन्दु धर्ममा लक्ष्मीलाई धनधान्यको देवीको रुपमा पुज्ने चलन छ । लक्ष्मीले बास गरे धनले भरिपूर्ण भइन्छ भन्ने किंवदन्ती नेपाली समाजमा पाइन्छ ।ग्रेटर बोष्टन नेपाली कम्युनिटीको आयोजनामा सदाझैं द्यौसी भैलो खेल्ने क्रममा यो वर्ष पनि सोही संस्थाको आवहानमा लक्ष्मी पूजाको दिन बेलमण्टस्थित जिबिएनसीका उपाध्यक्ष उत्सव गुरुङको घरमा द्यौसी भैलो खेलियो । 'मायालु काँको म परें गोरखाको बोष्टनमा भेट भा'को' भन्ने भाकामा चर्चित लोक गायक मिन केसीलाई अन्य कलाकार तथा साथीहरुले साथ दिएका थिए भने बाँकी उपस्थित महानुभावहरुले पालैपालो नृत्य प्रस्तुत गर्नुभएको थियो । त्यतिखेर यस पंक्तिकारलाई आफू बोष्टनमा नभएर नेपालकै गाउंघरमा उपस्थित भएजस्तो लागेथ्यो । आफ्नै देश नेपालकै परम्परागत बाजाहरु मादल खैंचेडी, सारङगी र हार्मोनियमको तालमा लोक गीत र नृत्यले सबैलाई मन्त्रमुग्ध बनाएको थियो । उक्त द्यौसी भैलो कार्यक्रम बेलुकी ८ देखि ११ बजेसम्म चलेको थियो । तिहार नेपालीहरुको महान चाडहरुमध्ये एक हो र तिहारमा द्यौसी भैलो खेल्ने दान माग्ने र दिने चलन सदियौंदेखि चलि आएको चलन हो । यो नेपालीहरुको परम्परा र संस्कृति हो । विदेशमा बस्दा पनि आफ्नो परम्परा र संस्कृतिलाई बिर्सन नसक्नु आफ्नो देश र परम्पराप्रतिको अगाध माया र ममता हो भन्ने कुरामा कसैको दुईमत नहोला । संसारको जुनसुकै कुनामा बसेपनि आफ्नो देश र संस्कृतिबाट अलग रहन सिकंदैन भन्ने उदाहरण द्यौसी भैलो कार्यक्रमले देखाएको छ । यसले गर्दा विदेशमा पनि हाम्रा भावी सन्ततीहरुलाई आफ्नो संस्कृति र परम्पराबारे अवगत भइराख्छ भन्ने बिश्वास हामीलाई लागेको छ ।अन्त्यमा उपाध्यक्ष उत्सवकी धर्मपत्नी पुष्पाले द्यौसी भैलो टोलीलाई परम्परानुसार नाङ्लामा पैसा, फलफुल र धुपबत्ति बालेर बिदाई गरेकी थिईन् भने कलाकार मिन केसीले आशिक िदंदै संस्थाका महासचिव ध्रुब घिमिरेले कार्यक्रमको समापन गर्दै अर्को दिन समरभिलमा खेल्ने द्यौसी भैलो कार्यक्रमको जानकारी गराउनु भएको थियो । समरभिलमा खेलिएको द्यौसी भैलोलाई यहांको स्थानिय टेलिभिजनले पनि प्रसारण गरेको थियो ।

बोष्टन, May 26, 2008-२५५२ औं बुद्ध जयन्तीको उपलक्ष्यमा बोष्टन तामाङ समाजको आयोजनामा अमेरिकाको म्यासाचुसेट्स स्टेट स्थित ३० एसेम्वली स्क्वायर ड्राईभ समरभिल सिटीको गुड टाइम हलमा डम्फु साँझ कार्यक्रम सम्पन्न भयो ।बोष्टन तामाङ समाजले विगत दुई बर्षदेखि बोष्टनमा तामाङ संस्कृतिलाई सम्बर्धन गर्ने उदेश्यले उक्त कार्यक्रम गर्दै आएको छ । विदेशमा बसेर पनि यस्ता कार्यक्रम आयोजना गर्नु विदेशमा रहनुभएका नेपाली दाजुभाइहरुलाई एकत्रित गरी नेपाली संस्कृतिको जर्गेना गर्दै दर्शकहरुलाई मनोराजन प्रदान गर्नु उक्त कार्यक्रमको उद्धेश्य रहॆको कुरा बोष्टन तामाङ समाजका अध्यक्ष प्रेम तामाङले बताउनु भयो ।'नेपालको लुम्बिनीमा जन्मनुभएका बुद्धले शान्तिको लागि निःस्वार्थ भावना, त्याग र बलिदान गर्नुपर्ने सन्देश प्रवाह गर्नुभएको थियो र आज पनि विश्वले उक्त सन्देशको कदर गर्दैआएको छ ।' अध्यक्ष तामाङले स्वागत मन्तव्य दिने क्रममा बताउनुभयो विभिन्न मनोराजनात्मक सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रमहरुको साथमा चर्चित पप गायक राजु लामाको प्रस्तुतिले दर्शकहरुमा उत्साह छाएको थियो भने न्युयोर्कबाट आउनुभएका धरमवीर लामाको जादुले दर्शकहरुलाई अचम्मित बनाएको थियो । कार्यक्रममा राई समाज बोष्टनको सहयोगमा राई संस्कृति झल्काउने नृत्य सोइ सोइ ढोले र शेर्पा समाज बोष्टनको तर्फबाट शेर्पा नृत्य प्रस्तुत गरिएको थियो त्यस्तै कनेक्टीकटका जोनी योन्जनले तामाङ सेलो गाउनु भएको थियो भने अमेरिका तामाङ सोसाइटी न्युयोर्कको तर्फबाट तामाङ सेलो नृत्य, लोक नृत्य र गीत प्रस्तुत गरिएको थियो । बोष्टन स्थित कलाकारहरुले भने लोक तथा मिश्रित नृत्यहरु र गीत प्रस्तुत गरेका थिए। । उक्त कार्यक्रमको संचालन उत्तम बाबु श्रेष्ठ र सुश्री पूजा लामाले संयुक्त रुपमा गर्नुभएको थियो ।कार्यक्रमको अन्त्यतिर बोष्टनस्थित नर्थस्र्टन युर्निभरसिटीबाट हालसालै मास्र्टस डिग्री इन जोग्राफिकल इन्फरमेसन सिस्टम मेजरमा सर्वेात्कृष्ट अंक ल्याई उक्त युर्निभरसिटीबाट एकेडेमिक एक्सीलेन्सी एवार्ड २००८ प्राप्त गर्नु भएका कार्यक्रम संचालक उत्तम बाबु श्रेष्ठलाई अध्यक्ष प्रेम तामाङले बोष्टन तामाङ समाज र ग्रेटर बोष्टन नेपाली कम्युनिटीको तर्फबाट खाता लगाई उहाँको सफलताको कदर तथा प्रशंसा गर्नुभएको थियो ।कार्यक्रममा अतिथिको रुपमा तामाङ सोसाईटी अफ अमेरिकाका अध्यक्ष इन्द्रबहादुर तामाङ, नेपाल अमेरिका जनजाती मंचका अध्यक्ष नेत्र दराई, समरभिल महिला आयोगकी डाइरेक्टर श्रीमती सोन्जा दराई, समरभिल सिटि केयर प्रीभेन्सनका डाइरेक्टर टयामी रोचा, ग्रेटर बोष्टन नेपाली कम्युनिटीका उपाध्यक्ष जाङबु शेर्पा, संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघका लागि नेपाली सेनाका सैनिक प्रतिनिधी महासेनानी देबेन्द्र मेधासी, तमु समाज बोष्टनका अध्यक्ष सुन्दर गुरुङ, तामाङ सोसाइटी अफ अमेरिकाका लागि कनेक्टीकटका प्रतिनिधि जोनी योन्जन, शेर्पा समाज बोष्टनका अध्यक्ष काजी शेर्पा, युनाईटेड किरात राई एशोसियशनका अध्यक्ष शिवकुमार राई, युनाईटेड किरात राई एशोसियशन न्यू ईङ्गल्याण्ड च्याप्टरकी अध्यक्ष श्यामाकुमारी राई र सान्फ्रान्सिस्को, क्यालिफोर्नियाबाट शेरबहादुर लामा उपस्थित हुनुहुन्थ्यो ।करीब ४०० नेपालीहरुको उपस्थितीमा उक्त कार्यक्रम सम्पन्न भएको थियो ।-बिजय तामाङ

May 4, 2008- ग्रेटर बोष्टन नेपाली कम्युनिटी (Greater Boston Nepali Community – GBNC) को आयोजनामा नायक अमृत लामाको निर्माणमा बनेको नेपाली कथानक चलचित्र 'झांक्री' यहाँको हार्वर्ड विश्वविद्यालयको विज्ञान केन्द्रको हलमा प्रदर्शन गरियो।सो कम्युनिटीका उत्तम बाबु श्रेष्ठले झांक्री चलचित्र प्रदर्शन गर्नुको उद्धेश्यबारे प्रकाश पार्दै मृत्यु दण्डको सजाय पाई कुवेतको जेलमा विगत छ महिनादेखि बन्दि जिवन बिताईरहेकी नेपाली चेली डोल्मा शेर्पा बचाउ अभियानको सहयोगको लागि यो चलचित्रको प्रदर्शन गरिएको बताउनुभयो ।डोल्मा शेर्पा गोर्खामा जन्म भई सिन्धुपाल्चोकमा बसोबास गर्दै आएको र आफनो श्रीमानले अर्की श्रीमती बिहे गरे पछि आफनो बालबालिकाको भरणपोषणको लागि रोजगार गर्न ऊनी कुवेत पुगेकी थिईन् ।कुवेतमा ऊनी एक फिलिपिनो महिला र एक भारतीय नागरिक ड्राइभर सहित तीन जना कुवेती साहुको घरमा कार्यरत थिईन् । उक्त घरमा फिलिपिनो महिला मृत्यु भएको मृतको हातमा डोल्माको रौं भेटिएको र डिनए परिक्षण गर्दा उक्त रौं डोल्माकै भन्ने प्रमाणित भएपछि कुवेतको एक अदालतले उनीलाई मुत्यु दण्डको सजाय सुनाएको थियो ।डोल्मा बचाउ अभियानमा संसार भरिका नेपालीहरुबाट सहयोग भइरहेको सन्दर्भमा बोष्टन अमेरिकाबाट पनि केही सहयोग गर्ने उद्धेश्यले अभिप्रेरित भई नेपाली कथानक चलचित्र झांक्री प्रदर्शन गरिएको व्यहोरा GBNC को वर्तमान अध्यक्ष प्रेम तामाङ्गले उक्त कार्यक्रममा बताउनु भयो । कार्यक्रमबाट प्राप्त रकम अमेरिकाको लागि नेपाली राजदुत डा. सुरेश चालिसे वा संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघका लागि नेपालका प्रतिनिधि मधुरमण आचार्य मार्फत सम्वन्धित निकायमा पुरयाउने कुरा अध्यक्ष तामाङ्गले बताउनुभयो

THE TAMANG
The TAMANG
The TAMANG (also known as Murmi), is one of the ethnic groups of Nepal descended from Tibet-Burman origins. A large number of tamangs inhabit in surrounded areas of Kathmandu Valley such as Rasuwa, Nuwankot, Dhading, Lalitpur, Makwanpur, Kavrepalanchowk, Sindupalanchowk, Sindhuli, Dolakha, and Ramechhap in the central development region of Nepal. However, they are scattered all over the country. Tamangs are founded in Darjeeling, Sikkim, Asam, and Nagaland of India, and in Burma and Bhutan as well.
According to the National Census 2001, Tamang population is 1,280,000 which comprised 5.6 percent of the total population of the country. We have our own language, religion, and culture. Religiously, most Tamangs are Buddhist and very few are Hindus. National Census 2001 data shows 90.26 % Tamang are Buddhist and 7.69% are Hindus. Due to geographical connection, tamang’s culture, religion and language closely related with Tibetan and Sherpa.
Tamang have six types of priests such as Tamba, Ganba, Bonbo, Labonbo, Lama and Choho. They have played significant roles to preserve Tamang culture, language and religion. They perform veneration, worship, marriage and death rites (Ghewa) in Tamang society. They do not marry between same sub castes (Thar) groups because of bone relationship. “Tamang selo” is their typical song and dance in which they dance to the beat of a drum called “Damphu” which is a traditional drum of the Tamangs.

The Boston Tamang Society (BTS) founded on April 25, 2006 in Somerville, Massachusetts and officially registered as a non-profit corporation in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the United States of America. The BTS is committed to help Nepalese people residing in this country and in Nepal when they need help. We have helped half-dozens Nepalis so far providing financial support for treatment and funeral rites in the United States during this year.

तेश्रो इण्डियन आइडल प्रसान्त तामाङ्गको सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रमस्थानिय सेन्टजेम्स आर्मेनियन चर्चमा डिसेम्बर २ आइतबार सम्पन्न भएको छ । चिसो हिँउले कठाग्रि्रएको वोष्टनको सो साँझलाई प्रशान्त तामाङ्गको गीतले निकै तताएको थियो । त्यो जोश माथि जोश थप्दै थिए नेपाली पप गायक राजु लामा र वोष्टनका अन्य स्थानिय कलाकारहरु । वेलुकी सात बजे शुरु भएको कार्यक्रम करीब दश बजे समापन भएको थियो । कार्यक्रमको शुरुवात एउटा वलिउड फिल्मी शैलीको नृत्यबाट भएको थियो भने समापन यो मन त मेरो नेपाली हो.... भन्ने गीतबाट । राम्ररी नेपाली वोल्न नसक्ने एक जना विदेशी महिलाले फुलको आँखामा फुलै संसार... भन्ने गीत गाँउदा दर्शकहरु अचम्भित भएका थिए । कार्यक्रममा ग्रेटर वोष्टन नेपाली कम्युनिटीका पूर्व अध्यक्ष विनोद ओली र देवी ओलीले भोजपुरी नृत्य प्रस्तुत गर्नु भएको थियो । कलाकार सुजाता गुरुङले दुइ गीत गाउनु भएको थियो भने स्थानिय नेपाली व्याण्डले दुइ वटा निकै राम्रो अंग्रेजी गीत प्रस्तुत गरेका थिए । हीपहपका पारखीहरुको धोको पुराइदिएका थिए दुइ नेपाली हिपहप गायकहरुले । कार्यक्रमा प्रशान्त तामाङ्गको प्रवेश मध्यान्तर पछि भएको थियो । उनले अड्कि अड्कि विस्तारै लजाउदै वोल्न शुरु गरे सबैलाई धन्यवाद दिए आफुलाई सहयोग गरेकामा । उनले असारे महिनामा..., यो गाँउको ठिटो म..., गोर्खाली गोर्खाली... आदी र केहि हिन्दी गीत प्रस्तुत गरे । प्रसान्त तामाङ्ग र राजुलामाले पालै पालो हाँस्दै हसाउदै सबैलाई नचाए । मन्चमाबाट गाउदै हात दिदै गरेका प्रशान्त तामाङ्ग र राजुलामाको हातलाई छुन युवतीहरुको निकै ठुलो भिड लागेको थियो । कार्यक्रममा ग्रेटर वोष्टन नेपाली कम्युनिटीका अध्यक्ष प्रेम तामाङ्ग, बोष्टन तामाङ्ग सोसाइटिका सचिव विजय तामाङ्ग, विनोद ओली लगायतले प्रशान्त तामाङ्गलाई खादा र नेपाली टोपी ओढाएर सम्मान गरिएको थियो । कार्यक्रममा स्थानिय आयोजक संस्था हिमालय इन्टरप्राइजेजको तर्फाट सुमी खडकाले धन्यवाद ज्ञापन गरेकी थिइन ।कार्यक्रमको शुरुमा फ्यानहरुलाई प्रशान्त तामाङ्गसँग भेट्न प्रतिवन्ध लगाइएता पनि स्थानिय अगुवाहरुको अनुरोधलाई स्वीकार गर्दै अन्त्यमा एक जना फ्यानलाई तीस सेकेण्डको दरले तस्वीर खिच्ने अवसर दिइएको थियो ।

तेश्रो इण्डियन आइडल प्रसान्त तामाङ्गको सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रमस्थानिय सेन्टजेम्स आर्मेनियन चर्चमा डिसेम्बर २ आइतबार सम्पन्न भएको छ । चिसो हिँउले कठाग्रि्रएको वोष्टनको सो साँझलाई प्रशान्त तामाङ्गको गीतले निकै तताएको थियो । त्यो जोश माथि जोश थप्दै थिए नेपाली पप गायक राजु लामा र वोष्टनका अन्य स्थानिय कलाकारहरु । वेलुकी सात बजे शुरु भएको कार्यक्रम करीब दश बजे समापन भएको थियो । कार्यक्रमको शुरुवात एउटा वलिउड फिल्मी शैलीको नृत्यबाट भएको थियो भने समापन यो मन त मेरो नेपाली हो.... भन्ने गीतबाट । राम्ररी नेपाली वोल्न नसक्ने एक जना विदेशी महिलाले फुलको आँखामा फुलै संसार... भन्ने गीत गाँउदा दर्शकहरु अचम्भित भएका थिए । कार्यक्रममा ग्रेटर वोष्टन नेपाली कम्युनिटीका पूर्व अध्यक्ष विनोद ओली र देवी ओलीले भोजपुरी नृत्य प्रस्तुत गर्नु भएको थियो । कलाकार सुजाता गुरुङले दुइ गीत गाउनु भएको थियो भने स्थानिय नेपाली व्याण्डले दुइ वटा निकै राम्रो अंग्रेजी गीत प्रस्तुत गरेका थिए । हीपहपका पारखीहरुको धोको पुराइदिएका थिए दुइ नेपाली हिपहप गायकहरुले । कार्यक्रमा प्रशान्त तामाङ्गको प्रवेश मध्यान्तर पछि भएको थियो । उनले अड्कि अड्कि विस्तारै लजाउदै वोल्न शुरु गरे सबैलाई धन्यवाद दिए आफुलाई सहयोग गरेकामा । उनले असारे महिनामा..., यो गाँउको ठिटो म..., गोर्खाली गोर्खाली... आदी र केहि हिन्दी गीत प्रस्तुत गरे । प्रसान्त तामाङ्ग र राजुलामाले पालै पालो हाँस्दै हसाउदै सबैलाई नचाए । मन्चमाबाट गाउदै हात दिदै गरेका प्रशान्त तामाङ्ग र राजुलामाको हातलाई छुन युवतीहरुको निकै ठुलो भिड लागेको थियो । कार्यक्रममा ग्रेटर वोष्टन नेपाली कम्युनिटीका अध्यक्ष प्रेम तामाङ्ग, बोष्टन तामाङ्ग सोसाइटिका सचिव विजय तामाङ्ग, विनोद ओली लगायतले प्रशान्त तामाङ्गलाई खादा र नेपाली टोपी ओढाएर सम्मान गरिएको थियो । कार्यक्रममा स्थानिय आयोजक संस्था हिमालय इन्टरप्राइजेजको तर्फाट सुमी खडकाले धन्यवाद ज्ञापन गरेकी थिइन ।कार्यक्रमको शुरुमा फ्यानहरुलाई प्रशान्त तामाङ्गसँग भेट्न प्रतिवन्ध लगाइएता पनि स्थानिय अगुवाहरुको अनुरोधलाई स्वीकार गर्दै अन्त्यमा एक जना फ्यानलाई तीस सेकेण्डको दरले तस्वीर खिच्ने अवसर दिइएको थियो ।
HISTORY OF BOSTON TAMANG SOCIETY
The Himalayan country Nepal has more than 36 different ethnic groups all over the country. Tamang is one of the typical Nepalese ethnic groups from the Mongolian family that migrated from Mongolia in the ancient period of time. Generally most of the Tamangs are located around the Kathmandu valley. Kavre, Sindhupalchok, Makawanpur and Nuwakot districts are the main area where we can find the Tamangs. Still Tamangs are spread all over the country from East to West and North to South. Mainly Tamangs work for other people rather than becoming business men or government officials because of their illiteracy and poverty.
With the flow of time, the Tamangs also became educated and experienced in different fields and started to visit other countries all over the world. Similarly they started to migrate to different areas of the United States. Like other cities, Boston also became the main inhabitance of the Tamangs.
In order to bring all Tamangs under an umbrella and develop brotherhood and friendship in each other, Tamangs living in Boston area, decided to form a Society. In 2003 Tamangs living in Boston area formed the “Boston Tamang Society” under the presidency of Mr. Pravin Kumar Tamang. Due to different problems such as financial issue and difficulty with scheduling, the society remained passive for a while. On the 15th of April, 2006 all the Tamangs living in Boston area gathered in Summerville to resume the activities of the society. In that meeting they decided to form a new committee and dissolve the previous one. A new committee formed with four members in the advisory committee and thirteen executive board members under the presidency of Mr. Lok Bahadur Lama. The first meeting decided to organize a cultural program “Damfu Saanjh” every year on the occasion of the Birth anniversary of the Lord Gautam Buddha which generally lies in May. On the 25th of April, 2006 the society officially registered as a non-profit corporation in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the United States of America.
To run the society smoothly, everyone became ready to make financial contributions and give morale support. In the first meeting the BTS collected the sum of $3278.00 including the previous balance. Similarly by the day of the first Damfu Sanjh, BTS became able to collect $6484.00.
The first Damfu Saanjh was held on 15th of May, 2006 in Anthony hall Somerville with the help of the Tamang Society of America, New York. Around 300 people participated and BTS made 226 copies of DVDs of that program. Since it was the first show of the society, a lot of weaknesses were seen which needed to be improved.
The second Damfu Saanjh 2007 was held on Monday May 28, 2007 in Good Time Emporium Somerville. The society sold 200 copies of DVDs of that program.
Due to the Job assignment change of Lok Lama, he resigned from the post of presidency in October, 2007. His resignation was sent to the Boston Tamang Society VIA email and Secretary forwarded that email to all board members in the same day. Similarly, the Assistant Secretary Suman Theeng went back to Nepal around November, 2007. Vice President Prem Bahadur Tamang started to lead the society as an acting president and the post of asst. secretary has remained open.
The meeting held on April 21st, 2008 in 23 Mt. Pleasant Street decided to dissolve the Advisory committee and reorganize the executive board members with some new faces. The advisor Pravin Kumar Tamang was nominated as a director of the society and the post of assistance secretary was dispelled. The board decided to organize the next “Damfu Saanjh” on Sunday, May 25, 2008, at Good Time Hall, Somerville. On the occasion of 2552nd birth anniversary of The Lord Buddha, Boston Tamang Society organized Damfu Saanjh 2008 with 350 guests.
The President of TSA, NY, Mr. Indra Lama emitted 100 copies of DVDs of Damfu Saanjh 2008 and 100 T-shirts on behalf of the Boston Tamang Society at the Connecticut barbeque party organized by the Tamang Society of America, NY.
As previous years, 2009 also became responsible for regular programs and organized another “Damfu Saanjh ”on Saturday the 27th of June,2009, at 400 Cardinal Medeiros Avenue, Cambridge with around 300 guests.
